Celebrating Malawi’s Food Heritage Through Innovation

We were proud to participate in the 5th Sustainability Festival, organised by SCOPE Malawi at Gateway Mall, Lilongwe, under the inspiring theme: “From Seed to Meal: Honouring Our Food Heritage.”

At NutriCare, we showcased our insect-roasted products, demonstrating how locally available food resources can be transformed into nutritious, innovative and sustainable food products.

Our participation was made possible through support from the Norwegian Church Aid Malawi NCA-DCA Innovation Grant, which continues to support our work in advancing insect-based nutrition and sustainable food solutions in Malawi.

As an African Food Changemakers (AFC) Ambassador, I was also honoured to be part of this important platform—connecting with fellow changemakers, young people, entrepreneurs and food-system actors who are shaping Africa’s food future.

For me, this was more than an exhibition. It was an opportunity to demonstrate that Malawi’s food heritage and innovation can go hand in hand—creating healthier diets, new enterprise opportunities and more sustainable food systems.

From our indigenous foods to new forms of nutrition, the future of African food is already being created here in Malawi.
