Our Story
NutriCare Malawi was born from one powerful question: How can children go hungry in a land so rich in resources?
For founder Ken Gunsalu, a nutritionist and agripreneur, this was more than a question, it became a calling. After years working in communities across Malawi, he saw a repeating problem: malnutrition wasn’t caused by lack of food, but by underuse of Malawi’s most nutritious local crops.
In 2014, Ken turned passion into action. NutriCare Malawi began as a small community-kitchen experiment, transforming local grains, legumes, seeds, and even traditional edible insects into affordable, fortified foods. Today, that experiment has grown into a circular food system connecting farmers, mothers, and markets, all working together to fight hunger, empower women, and protect the environment.
Our Purpose
NutriCare was built on a simple belief: food should not only fill stomachs, it should unlock human potential.
By using Malawi’s own resources, from soy, millet, and groundnuts to innovative proteins like crickets and grasshoppers, we create nutrient-dense products designed especially for women and school-aged children. Each bowl of our porridge does more than nourish a child; it strengthens families, supports farmers, and fuels a healthier economy.
NutriCare Malawi continues to prove that smart nutrition can transform a nation, one meal, one child, one community at a time.
Why it Matters
Malnutrition isn’t just a health issue, it’s a development emergency.
A single undernourished child can lose up to 10 IQ points, struggle academically, and earn less later in life. But when nutrition improves, families become stronger, farmers gain opportunities, and entire communities rise.
At NutriCare Malawi, we’re proving that investing in nutrition is one of the smartest, most impactful choices any donor or partner can make, because every nutritious bowl today builds a stronger, more prosperous Malawi tomorrow.
